AIR FORCE MILITARY SCHOOL JOS PROFILES

INTRODUCTION

The Air Force Military School, Jos (AFMS) was established in 18            August 1980 by the Nigerian Air Force through establishment order 3/80.
The primary objective is to provide a broad based Academic and Technical Education as well as Military training to post primary school children.  The training would serve as a good foundation for their subsequent service in the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigerian Air Force in particular.  The students are admitted as Junior Airmen (JAM) with school uniforms parallel to that worn by Service personnel and rank badges placed upside down to indicate their junior status. The Institution is boys school and is fully residential.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL
Besides the broad objectives stated earlier, the School is also aimed at achieving the following:
a.      To provide an increasing number of primary school pupils with the opportunity for education of a higher quality, irrespective of their social, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
b.      To diversify the curriculum to cater for the differences in talents, opportunities and roles possessed by or opened to students after their secondary school education.
c.       To raise a generation of people who can think for themselves, respect the views and fillings of others, respect the dignity of labour and appreciate those values specified under our broad national aims and live as good citizens.
d.      To foster Nigerian unity with emphasis on the common ties that unites us in our diversity.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF   AFMS SCHOOL
The administrative and operational control of AFMS is by the Nigerian Air Force Training Command Kaduna. The School has a Board of Governor Board that meets from time to time to deliberate on issues affecting the School. The day to day administration of the School is handled by the Commandant who is the head of the School. Furthermore, the organizational structure of the School is slightly different from that of a typical Nigerian secondary school.  The academic programme and the military training are carefully integrated.  About 80% of the educational experience is devoted to academic subjects, while about 20% is assigned to military training.  The school is divided into 4 major sub-units namely; School Headquarters, Academic Wing, Military Wing and Junior Airmen (JAM) Wing.
